DayRecently, Teijin held a press conference in Tokyo related to its carbon fiber and composite materials business. Takashi Yoshino, the head of Teijin's carbon fiber and composite materials division and president of Toho Tenax, announced that the development project for thermoplastic carbon fiber reinforced resin-based composite (CFRP) parts for GM's mass production vehicles, which Teijin is jointly promoting with General Motors (GM), has "entered the final stage towards mass production."
Teijin's thermoplastic CFRP is characterized by high production efficiency, allowing for shaping in just one minute. Although the company has not disclosed detailed information about the material or the specific vehicle applications, it stated that the material has been recognized by GM as suitable for automotive use. "Teijin plans to provide CFRP parts shaped from thermoplastic CFRP to GM, rather than supplying it in the form of carbon fiber and prepreg. The company is considering building a factory in North America to manufacture shaped parts for GM.
